2008 – 40 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks, 3 PBU

Overview:

Akeem Ayers shouldn’t go higher than the 3rd round. He’s a huge project and he is not capable of starting right away. He’s got bad instincts, he struggles to shed blocks and he can’t even wrap up consistently. The little potential he does show is as a pass-rusher. He has a great first step and long arms but other than that has very little technique. Whatever position he ends up playing, he’s going to need a lot of coaching.

Overview:

I had the pleasure of watching Greg Jones play at Michigan State his whole career. He is one of my favorite prospects in this years draft. He is a tremendous athlete and plays incredibly smart. He possess some of the best instincts I’ve seen from a LB. He does have some things to work on, but he is a good all-round player.

Scouting Report:

Positives

– Doesn’t make many plays on the ball when in coverage

Obi Ezeh Scouting Report

Obi Ezeh

Height: 6’2
Weight: 250
School: Michigan
40 Time: 4.80
Class: Senior
Stock: Down
Projected: Undrafted

Stats

2010 – 58 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1.0 sack
2009 – 70 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 2 PBU
2008 – 98 tackles, 7.0 TFL, 1.0 sack, 2 PBU, 1 INT
2007 – 67 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 2 PBU, 1 INT

Overview:

Obi Ezeh is a disappointing LB prospect. After his great sophomore year I thought he had some potential but he has yet to improve or even come close to matching those numbers. He’s not a very good athlete and for his size and experience he is an awful run defender and still makes too many mistakes. He may not have a true position at the next level. 3-4 ILB would seem logical but he would have a tough time shedding blocks inside. He lacks the range to be an OLB and his upside is at best a special team player. I think it will be very hard for him to make an NFL teams roster.

Scouting Report:

Positives

– Great size
– 4 year starter
– Good tackler, sound technique
– Gets his pads low
– Doesn’t miss many tackles
– Understands his assignments in coverage

Negatives

– Poor athlete
– Stiff hips and struggles to change directions
– Will have a tough time in coverage in the NFL
– Doesn’t have great range
– Struggles to shed blocks
– Takes poor angles and runs himself out of the play too often
– Doesn’t play the run as well as you would expect from his size
– Poor awareness and instincts
– Bites on play fakes too much
– Won’t be much of a pass rusher
– Has actually regressed
– Limited upside

Jonas Mouton Scouting Report

Jonas Mouton

Height: 6’2
Weight: 240
College: Michigan
40 Time: 4.65
Class: Senior
Stock:
Projected: 4th-5th Round

Stats

2010 – 117 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 2.0 sacls, 2 PBU, 2 INT’s
2009 – 65 tackles, 3.0 TFL, 2 PBU, 2 INT’s
2008 – 76 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU
2007 – 5 tackles

Overview:

Jonas Mouton is an under-the-radar prospect at LB. He is a good athlete for his size and I love the way he plays. He looks to initiate contact and is a very aggressive LB. While this leads to some great plays and big hits, it also means sometimes he will take himself out of the play. He needs to play with more discipline and tone down some of the aggression. I think he can be a solid reserve LB at the next level, who has the capability of developing into a starter.

Scouting Report:

Positives

– Experienced, 3 year starter
– Productive
– Good athlete
– Very good closing speed
– Delivers a good pop when tackling
– Good awareness in zone coverage
– Does a good job of reading the QB’s eyes
–  Gets good depth in his drop
– Makes plays in coverage
– Physical LB, likes to initiate contact
– Decent blitzer off the edge
– Sheds blocks well
– Filters through the line really well and gets into the backfield
– Smart player with good instincts
– Versatile, can play MLB and SLB in a 4-3

Negatives

– Over-pursues at times and runs himself out of the play
– Too aggressive at times
– Takes poor angles every so often and is found in a trailing position
– Doesn’t always breakdown and leads to missed tackles
– Hips aren’t very fluid
– Straight line speed is questionable
– May struggle in man coverage against quicker players
– Struggles to avoid cut blocks
