Carl Bradford Scouting Report

CARL BRADFORD – LB – ARIZONA STATE

Carl Bradford

Strengths:

Versatile player who has spent time at end and linebacker. A smooth athlete with a decent first step. Flashes the ability to beat lineman with speed by crossing their face and getting penetration. Has the athleticism to convert to linebacker full time in the pros. Already has some experience dropping into coverage.

Weaknesses:

Decent first step but not one to consistently threaten lineman. Only average speed around the edge. Is undersized and lacks strength. Struggles to shed blocks both in the run and pass game. Has short arms. Often pushed around in the run game and offers very little if he is initially blocked. Lacks pass-rush moves and is often stonewalled. Will need to switch to linebacker full-time and will take time to adjust. Was previously benched for getting into an altercation with his teammates on the sideline.

Skills:
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Athleticism: 3.0
Instincts: 2.0
Point of Attack: 1.5
Coverage: 2.0
Pass Rush: 2.0
Tackling: 2.0
Intangibles: 2.0

Verdict: Hate him

An overrated prospect in my opinion who will struggle to find a role in the NFL. He’s small and doesn’t stand out as neither a pass-rusher nor a run defender. He’s also played the majority of his snaps with his hand in the dirt and will definitely need to make the switch to linebacker in the NFL. However, I question whether he has the instincts and tackling ability to be a capable starter.

Grade: 6th Round
