Scott Crichton Scouting Report

Scott Crichton

A stout end who might have the ability to play in the 4-3 and 3-4. Has great strength. Flashes violent hands to disengage. Decent get-off for his size. Has a powerful bull-rush when he keeps his pad level low. Is difficult to move off the line of scrimmage when he anchors down. Can be lined up at multiple positions on the defensive line.

Not a great athlete and thus his upside as a pass-rusher is limited. Lacks suddenness or great speed to threaten the edge. Needs to continue to work on shedding blocks and developing pass-rush moves. Pops upright almost right off the snap and loses the leverage battle which negates his powerful lower body. Needs to finish and make the tackle more consistently. Ultimately, might be a tweener who can play multiple positions but won’t excel at one specifically.

1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Pass Rush: 2.5
Strength: 3.5
Quickness: 2.0
Point of Attack: 2.5
Tackling: 2.5
Intangibles: 2.5

Verdict: Meh

Crichton is an OK all-around defensive end but he doesn’t excel in one area. He does have good strength but it’s often useless because he loses the leverage battle. He needs to be developed but his upside is limited. He should get some looks from some 3-4 teams as an end and that may ultimately be his best spot despite being undersized for the position at the moment.

Grade: 4th Round
