Deone Bucannon Scouting Report

DEONE BUCANNON – S – WASHINGTON STATE

Deone Bucannon

Strengths:

A strong and physical safety. Great tackler and very active in run support. Flies around the field and always seems to be around the football. Has a great first step and can cover a lot of ground quickly. Consistently delivers a pop as a hitter. Reads plays quickly. Stays low in his backpedal and has above average fluidity for the position. Can line up man-to-man with most tight ends. Shows good ball skills to make plays in coverage.

Weaknesses:

More comfortable playing in the box as opposed to deep in coverage. More of a strong safety prospect despite playing free safety a lot at WSU. Struggles with blocks. Has a tough time disengaging and avoiding blocks, even from receivers.

Skills:
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Athleticism: 3.0
Instincts: 3.0
Coverage: 3.0
Run Support: 3.5
Ball Skills: 3.5
Intangibles: 3.5

Verdict: Love him

Consider me a fan of Deone Bucannon. I love his physical style of play and his ability to make impact plays. He would be best suited to play closer to the line of scrimmage but he’s not a lost cause in coverage. In fact, he shows pretty well in that area. He reminds me a bit of LaRon Landry in terms of playing style, obviously without the elite speed. He can become a nice starting strong safety for someone.

Grade: 2nd Round
