Dee Ford Scouting Report

Dee Ford

High effort player. Has a good motor when rushing the passer and will get his share of hustle sacks. A quick twitch athlete with a good first step and anticipation. Flashes a nice bull-rush when he plays with good leverage and gets under the pads of the opposing lineman. Has the strength to drive the tackle back into the pocket. Shows good speed around the edge. Uses his lateral agility to set up tackles with inside-out moves and has the quickness to get the edge. Has some experience dropping back into coverage and has rushed from both 2 and 3 point stances.

A bit of a linear athlete who will struggle in space. Undersized for an end but not athletic enough to play linebacker. Doesn’t have elite athleticism or bend and relies more on hustle. Needs to get better at using his hands to shed blocks. Lacks counter moves if initially stopped. Will rush too far up-field and leaves gaps against the run. Lacks strength at the point of attack and will have trouble with bigger and stronger lineman.

1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Pass Rush: 3.5
Strength: 2.5
Quickness: 3.5
Point of Attack: 2.0
Tackling: 2.5
Intangibles: 4.0

Verdict: Love him

Dee Ford surprised me and grew as a player as the season progressed. He may not be as athletic as the top pass-rushers in this class but his motor sets him apart. He reminds me of Ryan Kerrigan in that they both not be the greatest athletes, but they make up for it by their non-stop motor. These are guys I wouldn’t bet against.

Grade: 1st Round
