Kyle Fuller Scouting Report

KYLE FULLER – CB – VIRGINIA TECH

Kyle Fuller

Strengths:

A large corner with an ideal build and length. Is an excellent run defender who is definitely not afraid make tackles near the line of scrimmage. Good tackler who usually gets his man down in the open field. Displays great ball skills and ability to time his jumps. Uses his above average length to disrupt receivers trying to catch the ball. Shows a good burst and flashes the ability to click and close very well. Reads receivers well and shows good awareness in zone. Versatile.

Weaknesses:

A bit too top heavy for a corner and gets sloppy out of his breaks at times. Lacks deep speed and can struggle to keep up with quicker receivers. Despite his physical stature, doesn’t like to bump and harass receivers too much. Appears to be a linear athlete who will struggle with double moves and quick cuts. Might have to make the move to safety in the NFL.

Skills:
1-poor, 2-weak, 3-above average, 4-very good, 5-elite

Athleticism: 2.5
Instincts: 3.5
Man Coverage: 2.5
Zone Coverage: 3.5
Run Support: 4.0
Ball Skills: 3.5
Intangibles: 3.0

Verdict: Meh

Kyle Fuller is a bit of a tweener in my eyes. I think for him to succeed he has to play in a zone heavy scheme, which I think he can do very well, or move to safety. He has the size and run defending skills to make the move to safety and he would bring a plus in terms of his coverage abilities. Other similar corners have made the transition successfully such as Antrel Rolle, Jairus Byrd and Devin McCourty. Jairus Byrd in particular was a very similar prospect who has since become an elite safety. Of course there is always risk when a player might have to make a position switch and it doesn’t always pan out.

Grade: 2nd Round
