Chris Matthews Scouting Report

Chris Matthews

Height: 6’5
Weight: 218
College: Kentucky
40 Time: 4.57
Class: Senior
Projected: 7th-FA

2010 – 61 catches, 925 yards, 15.2 avg, 9 TD’s
2009 – 32 catches, 354 yards, 11.1 avg, 3 TD’s
2008 – JUCO
2007 – JUCO

Chris Matthews is a big receiver but he really doesn’t play like one. He does have good hands and body control but for his size I want to see him be more physical. He doesn’t do a good job of fighting for position and isn’t a natural at attacking the ball. He shows flashes that he can do it, but too many times he doesn’t. He is a similar prospect to David Nelson of Florida from last year.

Scouting Report:

– Has outstanding size at 6’5 218
– Can be deceptive on the go route
– Has a solid pair of hands
– Doesn’t allow the ball to get into his body
– Shows the ability to high point the ball and make the catch
– He adjusts fairly well to poorly thrown passes
– Size gives him advantage as a run blocker
– Could be a great weapon in the redzone

– Long strider with little burst
– Slow and lumbering out of his breaks
– Will struggle to create separation in the NFL
– Isn’t as physical as his size would indicate
– May have some issues tracking the deep ball
– Doesn’t attack the ball down field or fight for position
– Isn’t a threat after the catch due to lack of short area quickness
– Rounds his cuts and takes too many false steps
– Limited upside
