Justin Houston Scouting Report

Justin Houston

Height: 6’3
Weight: 270
College: Georgia
40 Time: 4.62
Class: Junior
Projected: 1st-2nd Round

2010 – 67 tackles, 19.5 TFL, 11.0 sacks
2009 – 38 tackles, 14.5 TFL, 7.5 sacks
2008 – 19 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks

Justin Houston is an interesting prospect because many have him listed as a 3-4 OLB but I think he would be terrible in a 3-4 scheme. He’s at his best with his hand on the ground and despite playing in a “3-4” he rarely dropped back in coverage in a game and only a handful of times rushed out of a 2 point stance. He’s a great athlete with an outstanding burst that can terrorize OT’s at the next level. However, he needs to use his hands better and develop more pass-rush moves because he won’t get by on just athleticism. His learning curve is much higher and he may struggle to make the transition at first. He’s the type of guy that has to put in a lot of work to make it in the NFL.
